Anjou Rouge from Domaine des Forges
Location : On the hillsides of Saint-Aubin-de-Luigné, with plots both north and south of the Layon
Grape variety : Cabernet Franc. Soil: The soil is made up of ochre green to grey-black shale, tending to sandy clay on the surface.
Winemaking : Grapes are harvested manually when they are very ripe. They are separated from the stalks and allowed to macerate for 8 to 10 days. The free-run juice is collected, fermented and aged in a temperature-controlled tank.
Tasting notes : The wine has a beautiful red hue ranging from ruby to pomegranate. Its red fruit scents are blended with more floral violet aromas or notes of spice or capsicum pepper depending on the vintage. A very smooth wine in the mouth, with a silky attack and velvet tannins. Serve at around 14°C.
Food pairings : The ideal partner for everyday meals: cold meats, white meats, grilled meats and mild cheeses.
Keeping qualities : Keep for 4 to 5 years.
