Coteaux du Layon from Domaine des Forges
Location : The Coteaux du Layon appellation takes its name from the Layon, a small river. The appellation spreads along both banks of the river, where Botrytis develops in the morning mists.
Grape variety : Chenin, harvested when it is over-ripe.
Terroir : Shale, quartz on clay and sand. Harvested within Saint-Aubin village, in passes of golden grapes as noble rot begins.
Winemaking : Traditional methods are used after pressing the grapes gently in a bladder press, alcoholic fermentation is controlled by adjusting the temperature. Tank aged.
Tasting notes : Coteaux du Layon is known for its fresh fruit and citrus aromas.
Tip : Drink within the first 3 years. Serve cool but not chilled as an aperitif, with dessert or with biscuits in the afternoon.
